DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Digital Access: Learning from Lived Experiences\n\n\n\nWhat’s on offer? \n\n\n\nManchester is on a mission to establish itself as a global digital leader by 2026. SUMMARY:19th Century Now!
DESCRIPTION:Part of Manchester Metropolitan University’s 200th celebrations\, this 2-day event highlights the continuing relevance of the 19th century today.   \n\n\n\nWith talks\, films and performances by individuals and groups who – influenced by the 19th century – are doing innovative work to support culture and communities today\, the aim is to encourage conversations and inspire future projects.   A range of international speakers will share their thoughts\, insights and experiences to provide memorable and lively discussions. \n\n\n\nDay one presents a morning session is for archivists\, curators and librarians working with 19th century collections. The afternoon is open to all and focuses on contemporary study of and innovations with collections and a performance of John Ruskin’s The Stormcloud of the Nineteenth Century. \n\n\n\nThe second day will host sessions themed around Community Arts\, Education and Economics and includes a free lunch. \n\n\n\nThis event has been organised by Manchester Metropolitan University’s Special Collections Museum and the English Dept’s Long Nineteenth Century Network\, with generous support of the university’s Arts and Humanities Engagement And Dialogue\, as well as the Arts and Humanities Research Council/Research Libraries UK  and Ruskin’s The Guild of St George. \n\n\n\nFollow @aheadmmu online for upcoming Arts & Humanities Research Events & Engagement \n\n\n\n\nBook for Sessions Here

DESCRIPTION:AHEAD In Conversation: Arts and humanities responding to the polycrisis invites MMU academics and guests to discuss themes of cultural policy \n\n\n\n\nOctober 16\, 2024\n\n\n\n\nAHEAD In Conversation: Arts and humanities responding to the polycrisis\n\n\n\nWelcoming guests to meet the team and highlight some of the existing research from the Arts and Humanities Faculty in discussion with policy makers. \n\n\n\nFriday 15 November : 10am – 3pm\, Lowry Building \, MMU \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArts and humanities responding to the polycrisis\n\n\n\nAHEAD at Manchester Met invites you to join regional and national thinkers\, as well as researchers and practitioners working in arts and humanities\, to help us set out a new agenda for how these disciplines can contribute to the policy debate and be a vital force in discourse about national renewal. \n\n\n\nAs a society\, we face multiple challenges including global warming\, social fragmentation\, an ageing population and low productivity. These and other overlapping grand challenges are sometimes called the ‘polycrisis’. A new government has brought with it a renewed focus on addressing the polycrisis with aspirations to improve productivity\, tackle the climate crisis and rebuild trust in public institutions. Arts and humanities have a crucial role to play in helping us all to understand our changing world and in shaping our response to the grand challenges of our time. \n\n\n\nAHEAD is the public engagement programme of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University. Our rolling programme of events and collaborations on a range of topics\, disciplines and research areas from across the faculty and throughout the year.Ahead in Conversation coincides with the university’s 200th anniversary celebrations.
