NortherJoin enJOY arts, Emerald LENS and School of Digital Arts for an evening of short films exploring women’s lives, experiences and health, followed by an opportunity to talk, reflect and share ideas about how we create change.n Light Cinema, Stretford
We’ll be screening three short films:
Motherhood Unscripted – exploring the realities, expectations and experiences of motherhood in times of crisis. Captured as part of our Mothers in Crisis project which explored experiences of Mothers during Covid and WWII (2022-2023)
Cost of Us – bringing women’s experiences and perspectives to the conversation around the pressures and inequalities that shape our lives (2024-2025)

Why are we not talking about women’s health – sharing the voices and lived experiences of women’s health experiences and stories from across Greater Manchester (2025-2026)
Following the films, we’ll host a short interactive discussion and Q&A, to share thoughts, feelings and pledge to make a change.
The event builds on previous screenings and creative workshops developed around this series of work. This is an opportunity to hear directly from women’s lived experiences, reflect on what the films raise for you, and explore how creativity can help us have conversations that might otherwise be difficult to start.
This event marks an opportunity to build relationships with a new community venue in Stretford and create stronger connections between research, creative practice and the local community.

About the Organisers
enJOY arts and Emerald LENS have developed a growing body of work specifically exploring women’s health, creating spaces where women can share experiences, challenge stigma and explore the gender health gap through creative practice.
enJOY arts is a participatory arts organisation with extensive experience using creativity to engage women and girls, particularly around issues that are often difficult to talk about or unheard. Our work brings together storytelling, drama, music, film, visual arts and creative writing to explore lived experience and amplify voices that are often overlooked.
Emerald LENS CIC brings complementary expertise in community engagement, creative facilitation and building welcoming spaces where participants feel valued and able to contribute. Their approach is rooted in creating opportunities for people to explore their experiences through creativity, conversation and shared activity.
