Welcome to the U-Kino Film Festival:

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors / Tini zabutykh predkiv / Wild Horses of Fire

U-Kino is a festival of Ukrainian cinema, with an aim to raise visibility of Ukrainian film and culture more broadly. The intention is to explore possibilities of ‘disagreeing well’, sophisticated spaces to explore conflict and the role of creative practice. The festival takes place from July – November 2024, the final screening is to coincide with commemorative events at the National Museum of Holodomor Genocide, Kyiv. The screenings take place in SODA cinema at the School of Digital Arts, Manchester Metropolitan University.

Join us on Wednesday 7 August at 15:00 at SODA (School of Digital Arts) for an exciting cinematic experience.

Two Hutsul families have been feuding for many years. Against this backdrop of animosity and a lust for revenge, a pure and bright love is born between Ivan and Marichka, members of the feuding families.

The Babushkas of Chernobyl

In the radioactive Dead Zone surrounding Chernobyl’s Reactor No. 4, a defiant community of women scratches out an existence on some of the most toxic land on Earth.
