Looking back at the Crime and Justice Film Festival
Over the years the Manchester International Crime and Justice Film Festival has shown great films which spark debate on crime, justice and punishment in the 21st century.

Since 2019 Manchester Metropolitan University’s Policy Evaluation and Research Unit has curated the festival with sponsorship from the School of Sociology & Criminology.
The festival has held a consistent mission – screening great films which provoke debate and provide an alternative take on crime, justice and punishment in the 21st century. The 2026 Festival had speakers from across the world of film, research, criminal justice and activism.
“Our finale event – the screening of Ben Sharrock’s “Limbo” exemplified what the festival is all about – the perfect melding of the themes from the film brought to the fore by an expert panel and commented upon by an engaged audience.” Kevin Wong, Festival Co Director
Each year screenings take place at Grosvenor East Building, the university’s Arts and Creative Hub. Grosvenor East is on the corner of Oxford Road and Cavendish Street, five minutes walk from Oxford Rd train station. the festival also hosts joint screenings with our partners at Instituto Cervantes Manchester and co curated with the North West Film Archive
I loved the topics of these movies, and I think the speakers were qualified/well-spoken.
